At the final day of the Euro 2012 Qualification Armenia had a chance of keeping their dreams alive. They needed a victory over Rep. of Ireland in order to save themselves a 2th position in the Group B, and thus get another shot of The Promised Land. Instead, it turned out to be a terrible night, especially for the armenian right-back, Valeri Aleksanyan. He was the man behind the first goal of the match, but unluckily for him and Armenia, this was an own goal. In order to steer the ball behind goal for a corner, he accidently put the ball in his own net, which, just before halftime, made the scoreline 1-0 in favor of the hosts. This turned out to be vital for course of the match, which ended with a 2-1 win for Rep. of Ireland.
